Types of Dairy Sensitivity

Can LACTAID® Products help you with dairy sensitivity? If you have lactose intolerance, the answer is yes! But you may not be sure what’s causing your sensitivity. Is it lactose intolerance, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) or milk allergies? Here´s a brief overview of all three conditions:

Lactose intolerance: A deficiency of a natural enzyme called lactase in the body which can cause symptoms of gas, bloating and diarrhea when foods with lactose are eaten. Lactase is needed to fully digest lactose, a sugar found mainly in dairy products. Learn more about lactose intolerance.

IBS: An intestinal disorder that causes abdominal discomfort and symptoms like diarrhea and constipation. The exact cause of IBS is unknown. Learn more about IBS from the Mayo Clinic.

Milk allergies: When the immune system doesn´t recognize one or more proteins in dairy products—most commonly whey and casein—as being harmless. Learn more about milk allergies from the Mayo Clinic.

Lactose free dairy products from the LACTAID® Brand help people with lactose intolerance easily digest and enjoy dairy. But as with any medical diagnosis, you should talk to your doctor.
