Lactaid is not the answer

Review Text:
I have been eating another brand of Vanilla Ice Cream (Lactose Free*) for over a year now and have experienced no side effects. During the past couple of days I was visiting family in another state and could not find my brand so bought Lactaid Vanilla Ice Cream. Oh boy, what a mistake! I experienced two days of cramps, gas, and diarrhea. Looking at the ingredients for both products, I don't notice too much difference except Lactaid uses whole milk while the other brand uses Skim Milk, Lactaid adds Lactose Enzyme while the other brand does not. I will not experiment again with a Lactaid product. And, I have to say that the other brand ice cream had a much better taste.

I loved the ice cream and if you add syrup, home made or store bought, with nuts I don't miss not having a ice cream sundae.

Started buying Lactaid milk for my husband who was thrilled to be able to have a glass of milk again with breakfast after so many years. I use it in cooking as well. Discovered Lactaid ice cream--what a find! Hubby was ecstatic to have ice cream again. Downside: was buying Lactaid ice cream at WalMart--suddenly several months ago it disappeared from their shelves. Dillons has never carried it. I'm amazed at this--with so many people having problems with lactose, these retailers are missing out on a great opportunity.

Not a 100% Lactose free!

I'm lactose intolerant and had this ice cream believing it to be lactose free. Alas as soon as I had a spoon full the familiar tummy rumbling began and soon ended up on the "throne". Besides I had taken a few lactaid pills prior to consuming the ice cream. I'm going to stick to coconut/soy ice cream in future!

I was diagnosed as Lactose Intolerant in l994. Since then, I have avoided Whole Milk, Ice Cream, Mayonnaise, Cottage Cheese, Sour Cream, Parmesan-Ricotta-American Cheese, Cheese on Salad, Cheese on Meat-Fish-Chicken, Chocolate, Sherbet with Milk, etc. I drink Lactaid Milk, eat a small dab of Light Mayonnaise, Yogurt or Sorbet, and Skim Milk if these are not available. I saw an ad for Lactaid Ice Cream online years ago, and was very excited! We could not find it in stock anywhere! My husband found it last month and bought it for me. I tried it TWICE. Both times, I was doubled over in pain, felt dizzy and nauseous, and had to take Pepto-Bismol and go to bed to sleep. I have not had a reaction like that to ice cream since l994 ! I do not think you should make Ice Cream, unless you DROP the cream! It should be made with Skim Milk or Yogurt. Also, the Fat Content is too high! - 13-27% - that totals 40% !!!! I always buy "Non-fat Lactaid!" And the Sugar is too high also - 12 grams. I have dropped Sugar from my Diet almost complete-ly. The Sodium count is 40 mg - higher than anything I have eaten in years! If any of your employees is Lactose Intolerant, you should use them as a Quality Control person before you market your product! I don't think you know how it feels to be in pain for over 2 hours! It was awful! I will NEVER buy your product again! I love Ice Cream, but I don't like getting sick!

Unfortunately I am a borderline type 2 diabetic - and the killer ingredient which makes this an unacceptable product for me is corn syrup. Regardless of the amount, either corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup are huge negatives for any level of diabetic. A shame. It's a great tasting product, but for the several million type 2 (non-insulin dependent) diabetics out there - any corn-based additive regardless of the amount is a huge non-starter... But I still love the milk!! If you ever find a way of making the ice cream product without corn product I would sure use it!!

I was thrilled to see LACTAID come out with an ice cream. I drink the skim milk and was so happy to find the vanilla ice cream. Unfortunately, instead of using sugar they use corn syrup. Just like many people who can't tolerate lactose I also have many other foods I am sensitive to and can't eat and corn is at the top of the list of foods I have to avoid. I'm so disappointed that the nutritionists who came up with this product didn't take into account that many lactose intolerant people need to avoid corn products also.

Review Text:
we just finished off a carton of Lactaid vanilla ice cream--had it on fresh blueberry pie! I came to the website because we couldn't remember where we had bought the ice cream. We usually buy Breyer's lactose free, and never knew about Lactaid ice cream. Will look for more flavors at our local store. I wanted to sign up for coupons and had selected several since that is the ONLY milk we drink. But I refused to add my birthdate and couldn't sign up. Too bad.
